On Thursday 3 March 2016, at the Presidential Palace, Dili, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the President of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, His Excellency Taur Matan Ruak, and Her Excellency First Lady Dr Isabel da Costa Ferreira, attended a ceremonial welcome.
Afterwards, the Governor-General met with the President of Timor-Leste.
Later, Lady Cosgrove, as guest of the First Lady, visited the Casa da Cidadania de Dili school for vulnerable children.
Then, at Parliament House, Dili, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove attended a special session of Parliament where the Governor-General met with the President of Parliament, His Excellency Dr Vicente Guterres, and later addressed the National Parliament.
Afterwards, at the Government Palace, the Governor-General, met with the Acting Prime Minister, His Excellency Mr Agio Pereira.
In the morning, Lady Cosgrove, as guest of Manager, Ms Ofilia Neves, and Chief Executive Officer, Ms Alzira Reis, visited Alola Esperansa.
Later, at the Presidential Palace, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove attended an investiture ceremony, at which the Governor-General was invested with the insignia of the Grande Colar of the Order of Timor-Leste, by the President of Timor-Leste.
Then, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove attended a State Lunch hosted in their honour by the President and the First Lady of Timor-Leste.
In the afternoon, at the Dili Convention Centre, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, attended the closing ceremony of the inaugural Timor-Leste Veterans’ Conference, at which the Governor-General made an address and met with veterans.
Afterwards, at Metinaro, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Minister for Social Solidarity, Her Excellency Dr Isabel Guterres, laid a wreath at the Metinaro Heroes Cemetery.
