10th Anniversary of Cyclone Larry Commemoration Activities; Feast of the Senses Market Day Extravaganza
On Sunday 20 March 2016, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), and Lady Cosgrove, visited Innisfail on the occasion of the 10th Anniversary of Tropical Cyclone Larry.
In the morning, at the Mother of Good Counsel Church, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of Parish Priest, Father Kerry Crowley, attended the Palm Sunday Mass.
Afterwards, at the Innisfail Shire Hall, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the President, Innisfail Arts Society, Mrs Jenny Taylor, viewed the Bi-Annual Arts Exhibition and met with artists and award recipients.
Later, at the Innisfail Regional Library, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of Artist Ms Susan Bishop, viewed the exhibition titled ‘Regeneration: Signs of Recovery’, a series of abstract artworks focussing on the stages of recovery following Cyclone Larry.
Then, at the Feast of the Senses Festival, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of Festival Manager, Mrs Kirsty Densmore, attended the Market Day Extravaganza, and met with community members, Festival stallholders, volunteers and key staff.
