Adelaide visit
On Monday 2 June 2014, at Government House, Adelaide, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), received the Speaker of the South Australian House of Assembly, the Honourable Michael Atkinson MP.
Afterwards, the Governor-General received the South Australian Leader of the Opposition, Mr Steven Marshall MP.
Later, the Governor-General presented the Australian Service Medal (Japan clasp) and Australian Defence Medal to World War II veteran, Dr Robert Colton. Dr Colton was accompanied by his daughter, Ms Aria Colton, and his sons, Mr Robert Colton and Flight Lieutenant Brendon Colton.
Then, in Port Adelaide, the Governor-General, as Patron, and Lady Cosgrove, visited the first Meals on Wheels kitchen established in South Australia in recognition of the 60th anniversary of Meals on Wheels – South Australia.
Afterwards, at the University of Adelaide, the Governor-General, as Patron of the Joanna Briggs Foundation, and Lady Cosgrove, attended a lunch at the Joanna Briggs Institute and visited the School of Translational Health Science.
Later, at TPI House, Richmond, the Governor-General, as Patron and guest of the President, Mr Tony Mogridge, met with members of the Australian Federation of Totally and Permanently Incapacitated Ex-servicemen and Women..
Then, at Lundunna House, Adelaide, the Governor-General, as Honorary Member, met with the President of the Naval, Military and Air Force Club of South Australia, Major Marc Ockenden RFD (Retd).
Afterwards, at Government House, Adelaide, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Governor of South Australia, His Excellency Rear Admiral Kevin Scarce AC CSC RANR, attended a reception at which the Governor-General officially launched ‘The Diggers’ Doctor’ by Mr Ashley Mallett.
In the evening, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove attended a dinner hosted in their honour by the Governor of South Australia and Mrs Liz Scarce.
Earlier, at Government House, Adelaide, Lady Cosgrove, as Patron, received the President of the National Rose Society of Australia, Mr Kelvin Trimper, and the Secretary, Mrs Mary Fricker.
