Albany Visit

On Saturday 1 November 2014, in Albany, Western Australia, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), and Lady Cosgrove, attended the Albany Convoy Commemorative Troop March at which the Governor-General received the salute.

Afterwards, at the ANZAC Peace Park, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove attended the Albany Convoy Commemorative Service at which the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove laid a wreath in remembrance.

Later, at Mount Clarence, Albany, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Mayor of the City of Albany, His Worshipful Dennis Wellington, attended the opening of the National ANZAC Centre, and viewed a re-enactment of the first the departure of the Albany Convoy from King George Sound.

Then, at the Albany Entertainment Centre, the Governor-General received the Minister of Defence and Veterans Affairs of the French Republic, Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian; the Ambassador for the French Republic, His Excellency Mr Christophe Lecourtier; and the Director of Strategic Affairs from the Ministry of Defence, Mr Phillippe Errera.

Afterwards, the Governor-General, as guest of Senator the Honourable Michael Ronaldson, attended the presentation of the Légion d’Honneur by Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian to Australian World War Two veterans.

Later, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Chief of Navy, Vice Admiral Tim Barrett AO CSC RAN, attended a reception onboard HMAS Arunta where they met sailors and officers from the Royal Australian Navy, Royal New Zealand Navy, Marine Nationale and Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force.
