On Sunday 24 April 2016, in Amiens, France, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) and Lady Cosgrove, received the First Assistant Secretary, Commemorations and War Graves, Department of Veteran’s Affairs, Major General David Chalmers AO, for an Anzac Day briefing at the Mercure Amiens Cathedrale Hotel.

Afterwards, at the Adelaide Cemetery, Villers-Bretonneux, the Governor-General attended a commemorative ceremony, at which the Governor-General laid a wreath at the former resting place of the unknown Australian soldier.

Later, at the Australian National Memorial, Villers-Bretonneux, the Governor-General received the Assistant Defence Attaché (Military Heritage) to France, Belgium and the United Kingdom, Colonel Scott Clingan for an Anzac Day site briefing, met with tourists and recorded the Anzac Day address.

Then, at the Château de Bertangles, Bertangles, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the proprietors, Monsieur Stanislas de Chermont-Tonnerre and Madame Tonnerre, attended a lunch hosted by Ambassador Stephen Brady AO CVO and planted a European Beech tree in honour of General Sir John Monash.

Afterwards, at the Amiens Town Hall, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Mayor of Amiens, Madame Brigitte Fouré, attended a Civic Reception, at which the Governor-General delivered an address.

Later, at the Amiens Cathedral, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Bishop of Amiens, Monsignor Olivier Leborgne, received a guided tour of Amiens Cathedral, at which the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove laid a wreath in the Allied Chapel.
