On Friday 20 October 2017, at Jordan Museum, Amman, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Director General, Jordan Museum, Mr Ihab Amarin, and University of Sydney Archaeologist, Dr Stephen Bourke, were briefed on artefacts excavated and restored as a result of Australia-Jordanian co-operation in archaeology.
Afterwards, at Queen Alia International Airport, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove were farewelled from Jordan by the Minster for Political and Parliamentary Affairs and Minister of State, His Excellency Minister Musa Maayta.
Later, at Sharm Al Sheikh International Airport, Cairo, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove were welcomed to the Sinai Peninsula by the Governor, South Sinai, Mr Khaled Fouda, and the Ambassador to the Arab Republic of Egypt, His Excellency Mr Neil Hawkins, and Mrs Diane Hawkins.
In the afternoon, at South Camp, Sinai Peninsula, as guests of the Force Commander Multinational Force and Observers (MFO), Major General Simon Stuart DSC AM, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove received a briefing on the current Sinai operations and the role of the MFO. After which the Governor-General met with MFO members from Australia, Fiji and New Zealand, who also served as a part the International Forces in East Timor. Later, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove attended a lunch with Australian Defence Force serving members of the MFO.
In the evening, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove received a delegation briefing from Mr Hawkins.
Afterwards, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove hosted a dinner for Australian Embassy staff.
