ANZAC of the Year Award; Sylvandale Day Care Centre; Opening night of ???The Seagull'; Royal Australian Air Force's Multi-Role Tanker Transport project; Spain-Australia Foundation
On Wednesday 8 June 2011, at Government House, Sydney, the Administrator of the Government of the Commonwealth of Australia, Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir AC CVO, received the Consul-General of Italy, Mr Benedetto Latteri.
Afterwards, the Administrator, as Patron of the New South Wales Branch of the Returned and Services League of Australia, presented the 2011 ANZAC of the Year Award to Mr William Humphreys at a presentation ceremony.
In the evening, at the Belvoir Theatre, Sydney, the Administrator attended the opening performance of ‘The Seagull’.
Earlier, in Madrid, Spain, at the Palacio del Congreso de los Diputados, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE met with the President of the Congress of Deputies of the Kingdom of Spain, Mr Jose Bono Martinez and then viewed the opening of a Parliamentary session.
Later, at Palacio de Moncloa, the Governor-General met with the President of the Government of the Kingdom of Spain, His Excellency Mr Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero.
Then, at the Airbus Military Conversion Centre, Getafe, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce viewed the Royal Australian Air Force’s Multi-Role Tanker Transport project, where the Governor-General, as Commander-in-Chief, presented service medals to Australian servicemen.
In the afternoon, at the Armada Headquarters, Madrid, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce as guests of the Deputy Chief of the Armada, Admiral Fernando Garcia Sanchez, visited the Naval Museum and viewed 16th century charts of Australia.
In the evening, the Governor-General, as guest of the President of the Spain-Australia Foundation, Mr Antonio Garrigues, met with Foundation members.
Afterwards, at the residence of the Australian Ambassador to the Kingdom of Spain, Her Excellency Ms Zorica McCarthy, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce attended a reception.
