Apia, Samoa; Tarawa, Kiribati
On Saturday 24 June 2023, Their Excellencies General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd) and Mrs Linda Hurley travelled from Apia, Samoa, to Tarawa, Kiribati.
On arrival, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley were met by Her Excellency Ms Karen Bray, Australian High Commissioner to Kiribati and representatives of the Government of Kiribati.
Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley received a traditional welcome from the People of Kiribati, at Eita Village.
Then, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley met with His Excellency Taneti Maamau, President of Kiribati.
In the afternoon, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of His Excellency Taneti Maamau and First Lady Madame Teiraeng Maamau, attended lunch with at the President's State House.
Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Mr Eeri Aritiera, Acting Commissioner, attended a Kiribati Police Service ceremonial parade, where they presented new music instruments to the police band.
Later, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Mr Alexander Teabo, Minister for Education, visited and met with Australian volunteers working in the disability sector at the Kiribati School and Centre for Children with Disabilities.
Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley attended a farewell ceremony at Bonriki International Airport, after which they travelled from Tarawa, Kiribati, to Apia, Samoa.
