Athens, Greece; Lemnos, Greece
On Wednesday 3 May 2023, Their Excellencies General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd) and Mrs Linda Hurley travelled from Athens to Lemnos, Greece.
On arrival, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley attended a commemorative service and wreath-laying ceremony for the Fallen of the Gallipoli Campaign, at the East Moudros Military Cemetery.
Then, the Governor-General attended a groundbreaking ceremony for the Lemnos Commemorative Trail, at the Australian Pier in Moudros Harbour.
Later, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley attended a lunch and met with representatives of local Lemnos authorities.
In the afternoon, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley visited the Portianou Military Cemetery.
Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley visited prominent sites at Pounda Bay, including the Water Tower, the Australian Military Hospital and the Water Pier.
