On Friday 2 June 2017, at the Northern Club, Auckland, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the President, Mr Derek Nolan QC, attended a Trans-Tasman Business Circle breakfast.
Afterwards, at Hapuku Lodge, Kaikoura, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Mayor of Kaikoura, His Worship Winston Gray, met with first responders of the Kaikoura earthquake, which hit the area in November 2016.
Later, at the Takahanga Marae, Kaikoura, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, participated in a Powhiri (Maori Welcome) and met with members of the Iwi (Tribe). Stranded tourists from the 2016 earthquake were housed and looked after by volunteers at the Takahanga Marae.
In the afternoon, at the International Antarctic Centre, Christchurch, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Chief Executive of Antarctica New Zealand, Mr Peter Beggs, received a brief on the Antarctica New Zealand operations and met with staff.
In the evening, at The George Hotel, Christchurch, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove attended an Investiture Ceremony where the Governor-General invested Mr James Norton with a Commendation for Brave Conduct.
Afterwards, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove hosted a dinner for staff of the Australian High Commission in New Zealand.
