Aurukun, Queensland

On Saturday 13 July 2019, Their Excellencies General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd) and Mrs Linda Hurley, travelled from Julia Creek to Aurukun, Queensland.

In Aurukun, as guests of Mr Alan Neilan, Director of Community Services, met with community representatives and attended a briefing on Aurukun and the surrounding region.

Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Ms Jamilla Dix, Convenor, met with members of the Aurukun Youth Council at the Wo’uw Ko’alam Community Centre.

Later, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Dr Tim White, Director, met with team members, volunteers and staff of the Kapani Warrior Cup before presiding over the commencement of the event.

Then, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Mr Geordie White, Director of Nursing, visited the Aurukun Health Clinic.

Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Mr Suli Caneweka, participated in a range of activities with children and staff at the Act for Kids Aurukun Safe House.

The Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Dr Tim White, Director, then returned to watch the finish of the Kapani Warrior Cup and awarded a trophy to the winning team.

In the evening, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley travelled to Weipa.
