Australian Society for Medical Research; Madrid 'Keys to the City' Ceremony; Official Lunch with the Prince and Princess of Asturias; Prado Museum
On Tuesday 7 June 2011, at St James Church, Sydney, the Administrator of the Government of the Commonwealth of Australia, Her Excellency Professor Marie Bashir AC CVO, attended a Memorial Service for Dr George (Rowan) Nicks AO OBE.
Afterwards, at the Office of the Governor, Sydney, the Administrator received Professor Beverley Raphael, who stayed on for lunch.
In the evening, at Doltone House, Pyrmont, the Administrator, as guest of the New South Wales Branch of the Australian Society for Medical Research and in recognition of Medical Research Week, for the Australian Society for Medical Research, attended a 50th anniversary dinner, at which the Administrator delivered an address.
Afterwards, in Madrid, Spain, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE, as guests of the Mayor of Madrid, Mr Alberto Ruiz Gallardon, attended a ceremony to receive the 'Keys to the City'.
Later, at the Palacio Real, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce, as guests of His Royal Highness the Prince of Asturias, Felipe de Borbon y Grecia, and Her Royal Highness the Princess of Asturias, Letizia Ortiz Rocasolano, attended an Official Lunch held in their honour.
In the evening, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce, as guests of Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Prado Museum, Mr Placido Arango, visited the Prado Museum.
