The Big Issue; Asylum Seeker Resource Centre; Reception for Centenary of Canberra
On Wednesday 16 May 2012, at the Big Issue Melbourne Headquarters, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC CVO and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE, as guests of the Chair, Ms Sonya Clancy, and Chief Executive Officer, Mr Steven Perrson, met with staff and joined shift workers from The Big Issue’s Women’s Subscription Enterprise.
Afterwards, in West Melbourne, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce, as guests of the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre, Mr Konstandinos Karapanagiotidis OAM, received an overview of the centre’s programs and met with clients, staff and in recognition of National Volunteer’s Week, attended a morning tea with the centre’s volunteers.
Later, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce received the Deputy Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Ms Gillian Bird.
Then, the Governor-General received the Director of the Edinburgh Festival, Mr Jonathan Mills AO.
In the evening, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce hosted a reception in support of the 2013 Centenary of Canberra and the Jonathan Mills production, ‘Ethereal Eye’.
Earlier, the Governor-General was represented at Brisbane International Airport at the arrival in Australia of the President of the Republic of Nauru, His Excellency the Honourable Sprent Dabwido MP, by Group Captain Brian Duddington AM ADC, an Honorary Aide-de-Camp.
