Bourke, NSW

On Friday 1 September 2017, at Bourke Airport, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), and Lady Cosgrove were welcomed by the Mayor of the Bourke Shire Council, Councillor Barry Hollman.

Afterwards, at Bourke District Hospital, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Chief Executive, Western NSW Local Health District, Mr Scott McLachlan, viewed the facilities and met with staff and patients.

Later, at the Maranguka Community Hub, Bourke, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Executive Director of the Maranguka Backbone Organisation, Mr Alistair Ferguson, received a briefing on operations and met with staff.

In the afternoon, at Bourke Primary School, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Principal, Ms Kylie Pennell, met with staff and students and participated in a National Wattle Day ceremony.

Afterwards, at TAFE NSW Bourke College, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Director of Aboriginal Education and Equity Provision, TAFE NSW, Mr Rod Towney PSM, met with staff and students.

Later, at the Bourke War Memorial, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the President of the Bourke Returned and Services League, Councillor Victor Bartley, viewed the memorial, laid a wreath and met with guests including local Clontarf Academy staff and students.

In the evening, on board the PV Jandra, North Bourke, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of Councillor Hollman, attended a civic reception.
