On Wednesday 21 June 2023, Their Excellencies General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd) and Mrs Linda Hurley, as guests of Her Excellency the Honourable Dr Jeannette Young AC PSM, attended a breakfast as part of the Vice-Regal Gathering.
Later, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley travelled from Brisbane, Queensland, to Apia, Samoa.
Following the departure of the Governor-General from Australia to Samoa, the proclamation assuming the Administration of the Government of the Commonwealth of Australia was signed by Her Excellency the Honourable Linda Dessau AC CVO.
Afterwards, the Governor-General was represented at Darwin International Airport for the departure of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei, by Commander Chelsea Livingstone RAN, Executive Officer, HMAS Coonawarra.
In the evening, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley met with Her Excellency Ms Emily Luck, Australian High Commissioner to Samoa, the Honourable Ms Fiamē Naomi Mata’afa, Prime Minister of Samoa, and Ms Peseta Noumea Simi, Chief Executive Officer, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Samoa, at Faleolo International Airport.
