On Tuesday 6 February 2024, Their Excellencies General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd) and Mrs Linda Hurley, as guests of Mr Stephen Smith AFSM, Acting Commissioner, Queensland Fire and Emergency Service (QFES), visited the Queensland State Disaster and Coordination Centre and QFES State Operations Centre.
In the morning, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Mr Fergus Adrian, First Officer, visited and met with members of the Samford Rural Fire Brigade.
Then, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Mr Barry Maher, Chair, met with members of the Samford Bowls Club involved in clean-up efforts following adverse weather and localised flooding.
Later, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Councillor Jodie Shipway, Deputy Mayor, City of Moreton Bay, attended a BBQ lunch for members of the SES and Queensland Fire & Rescue personnel at the Murrumba Downs SES.
In the afternoon, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Chief Superintendent Kevin Reading, QFES, met with the Rural Fire Service staff at the Caboolture Area Office.
Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley travelled from Brisbane, Queensland, to Sydney, New South Wales.
