On Tuesday 31 January 2023, Their Excellencies General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd) and Mrs Linda Hurley travelled from Broome, Western Australia, to Fitzroy Crossing, Western Australia.
Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Ms June Oscar AO, Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander Social Justice Commissioner, participated in a smoking ceremony, and met with community members.
Later, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Councillor Geoff Haerewa, President, Derby and West Kimberley Shire, met with community members affected by recent floods.
Then, the Governor-General conducted a radio interview with Ms Natalie Davey, Wangki Yupurnanupurru Radio; while Mrs Hurley, as guest of Ms Stephanie King, Manager, Wangki Yupumanupurru Radio met with staff.
Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Mr Tim Dalwood, District Officer, met with Department of Fire and Emergency Services personnel and received a briefing on flood recovery efforts.
Later, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Councillor Geoff Harewa, assessed the extent of flood damage in Fitzroy Crossing.
Then, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Ms Emily Carter, Chief Executive Officer, met with community members from the Marninwarntikura Women's Resource Centre.
Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Maureen Carter, Chief Executive Officer, met with community members from the Nindilingarri Cultural Health Services.
Later, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley travelled from Fitzroy Crossing, Western Australia, to Broome, Western Australia.
