On Friday 29 September 2017, at the Intercontinental Hotel, Budapest, the Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), and Lady Cosgrove received a briefing from the Ambassador to Austria, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Hungary, Kosovo and the Slovak Republic, His Excellency Dr Brendon Hammer.
In the afternoon, at the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), Vienna, the Governor-General met with the Secretary-General of OSCE, Dr Thomas Greminger.
Afterwards, at Hofburg, Vienna, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Director-General of the Art History Museum of Vienna, Dr Sabine Haag, viewed the Imperial Treasury.
Later, at the Hofburg Palace, Vienna, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove met with the Federal President of the Republic of Austria, His Excellency Dr Alexander Van der Bellen.
Then, at the Vienna International Centre, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove were welcomed to the United Nations Headquarters, Vienna by the Director-General of United Nations Office at Vienna, Mr Yury Fedotov.
Afterwards, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Chief of Laboratory and Scientific Section, United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Dr Justice Tettey visited the synthetic drug laboratory and met with staff
Later, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of Mr Fedotov, attended a briefing by members of the UNODC.
Then, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrve, as guests of Mr Fedotov, met with Australian personnel based at the United Nations Heaquarters in Vienna.
Afterwards, at the Ambassador to the Republic of Austria’s Residence, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of Dr Hammer, attended a reception with members of the Australian-Austrian community.
Earlier, at the National Museum of Australia, Canberra, the Administrator of the Commonwealth of Australia, His Excellency the Honourable Hieu Van Le AC, as guests of Chairman, The Australiana Fund, Mr Donald McDonald AC, launched The Australiana Fund’s book, ‘Collecting for a Nation’.
Afterwards, at Government House, Canberra, the Administrator presided over a meeting of the Federal Executive Council.
Later, at the National Police Memorial Australia, Canberra, the Administrator, as guest of the Commissioner of the Australian Federal Police, attended the National Police Remembrance Day service, at which he delivered an address and laid a wreath at the base of the memorial wall.
