Call by the Prime Minister of the Independent State of Papua New Guinea; Macular Degeneration Foundation reception; Ronald McDonald House Charities reception
On Thursday 13 October 2011, at Admiralty House, Sydney, the Governor-General Ms Quentin Bryce AC and Mr Michael Bryce AM AE received the High Commissioner to the Independent State of Papua New Guinea, Mr Ian Kemish AM.
Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce received the Prime Minister of the Independent State of Papua New Guinea, the Honourable Peter O’Neill CMG MP, and Ms Lynda May Babao. The Prime Minister was accompanied by Mr Mataio Rabura (Consul-General of the Independent State of Papua New Guinea - New South Wales), Mr Gideon Oli (Deputy Chief of Staff, Office of the Prime Minister), and Mr Frank Aisi (Director, International Relations Unit, Department of Prime Minister and National Executive Council).
Later, the Governor-General and Mr Bryce, in recognition of World Sight Day, hosted an awards event for the Macular Degeneration Foundation at which the Governor-General announced the winners of the inaugural Macular Degeneration Foundation Research Grants Program.
Then, the Governor-General received the Deputy Vice Chancellor of Research, University of Wollongong, Ms Judy Raper.
In the evening, at Admiralty House, Sydney, the Governor-General, as Patron, hosted a function for Ronald McDonald House Charities marking the 30th anniversary of the creation of the first Ronald McDonald House in Australia.
Afterwards, at Parliament House, Sydney, Mr Bryce, as guest of The Australian Heraldry Society, attended a lecture by the Professor of English Literature and Head of the English and Theatre Program, University of Melbourne, Professor Stephanie Trigg.
