Call by the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of the Netherlands; Visit to Port Hedland

On Thursday 6 November 2014, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), as Patron of Lions Australia, received past President of the International Lions Club, Mr Barry Palmer AM, and Mr Gary Parker.

Afterwards, the Governor-General received the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, His Excellency Mr Mark Rutte.

Later, in Port Hedland, Western Australia, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Operations Manager, Mr Billy McGee, visited the Rio Tinto Dampier Salt plant and viewed operations.

Then, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Mayor of the Town of Port Hedland, Councillor Kelly Howlett visited the JD Hardie Youth Zone and met with members and parents.

Afterwards, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Managers, Mr Greg Taylor and Ms Ruth Leigh, visited the Spinifex Hill Artists Studio and met with local artists.

Later, at The Esplanade Hotel, the Governor-General, as Presiding Officer, and Lady Cosgrove, attended a Citizenship ceremony and community reception.
