On Wednesday 15 August 2018, the Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) and Lady Cosgrove, hosted the inaugural National Science Week Design Challenge at Government House, Canberra. Held in conjunction with Questacon, the event saw over 140 students from 27 primary schools participate in a range of activities to build their understanding about science and technology.

Afterwards, the Governor-General met with students from Mildura Christian College, VIC; Humpty Doo Primary School, NT; Wirreanda Public School, NSW; and Comet Bay Primary School, WA, as they undertook a tour of Government House as part of their visit to Canberra.
