On Thursday 2 August 2018, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) presided at a meeting of the Federal Executive Council.

Afterwards, the Governor-General received members of the National Malaya & Borneo Veterans Association. Members included: Mr Owen Marshall, National President; Mr Ian Davenport, President, ACT/NSW Branch; Mr Brian Selby, SA/NT Branch; and Mr Ben Thurlow, Secretary, VIC Branch.

Then, the Governor-General received His Excellency Mr Najib Al-Bader Ambassador of the State of Kuwait, for a farewell call. In the afternoon, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove hosted an afternoon tea to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Australian Army Band Corps.

Earlier, the Governor-General met with students from Radford College, ACT, and Taree Christian College, NSW, as they undertook a tour of Government House.
