On Thursday 15 March 2018, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), presided at a meeting of the Federal Executive Council.

Afterwards, the Governor-General received the Ambassador to the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Mr Craig Chittick. Later, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove received the Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, His Excellency Mr Nguyen Xuan Phuc, and Madam Tran Thi Nguyet Thu.

In the evening, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, His Excellency Mr Phuc and Madam Thu, attended a reception to celebrate the 45th Anniversary of diplomatic relations between Australia and Vietnam.

Earlier, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General met with students from Brighton Primary School, VIC, as they undertook a tour of Government House as part of their visit to Canberra.
