On Friday 8 December 2017, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), received the Prime Minister of Australia, the Honourable Malcolm Turnbull MP, and the Attorney-General, Senator the Honourable George Brandis QC, and assented to the Marriage Amendment (Definition and Religious Freedoms) Bill 2017.

Afterwards, the Governor-General presided over a meeting of the Federal Executive Council.

Later, the Governor-General received the High Commissioner-designate to Malaysia, Mr Andrew Goledzinowski.

Then, the Governor-General received the High Commissioner-designate to Canada, Ms Natasha Smith.

Afterwards, the Governor-General received the Founder of Send Hope Not Flowers charity, Dr Barry Kirby and Ms Kila Dobo.
