On Thursday 12 October 2017, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), and Lady Cosgrove hosted an afternoon tea for members of Soldier On.

In the afternoon, the Governor-General received a video call from Carramar Primary School, WA, as part of their civics and citizenship classes.

Afterwards, the Governor-General met with students from Morningside State School, QLD; St Eugene College, QLD; and Sheldon College, QLD, as they undertook a tour of Government House as part of their visit to Canberra.

Earlier, at Defence Establishment Fairbairn, Canberra, the Governor-General was represented for the arrival to Australia of the President of the Republic of Niger, His Excellency Mr Issoufou Mahamadou, by the Deputy Official Secretary to the Governor-General, Mr Paul Singer MVO.
