On Thursday 25 May 2017, at the British High Commission, Canberra, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the British High Commissioner, Her Excellency Mrs Menna Rawlings CMG, attended a memorial service for the victims of the Manchester attack.
Afterwards, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General received the High Commissioner to the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, Mr Bryce Hutchesson.
Later, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove hosted a Ceremonial Welcome for the President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, His Excellency Maithripala Sirisena.
Then, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove met with His Excellency Maithripala Sirisena, and received: Minister of Tourism Development and Christian Religious Affairs, the Honourable John Amarathunga MP; High Commissioner to the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, Mr Bryce Hutchesson; Deputy Minister of Power and Renewable Energy, the Honourable Ajith P Perera MP; Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Honourable Dr Harsha de Silva MP; High Commissioner of the Socialist Democratic Republic of Sri Lanka, His Excellency Mr Somasundaram Skandakumar.
In the afternoon, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove hosted a State Lunch in honour of His Excellency Maithripala Sirisena. Guests included: Mr Indradjit Arulampalam and Mrs Shyamala Arulampalam; Mr Mauro Balzarini; Air Chief Marshal Mark Binskin AC; the Honourable Julie Bishop MP; Professor Andrew Campbell; Mr Paul Cooper; Dr Jayne Curnow; Mr Anthony Dennis and Miss Inge Holst; Mr David Graham; His Excellency Mr Abel Guterres and Mrs Ana Guterres; Mr Bryce Hutchesson; Mr Peter Kuruvita; the Honourable Richard Marles MP; Senator the Honourable James McGrath; Mr Tom O’Leary and Ms Lorraine Young; Dr Martin Parkinson AC PSM; Senator the Honourable Stephen Parry; Dr Adrian Paterson; Mr Dinesh Perera; Mr Michael Pezzullo and Mrs Lynne Pezzullo; Mr Andrew Phelan and Mrs Monica Phelan; Minister Gordon Ramsay MLA; and Ms Penny Williams.
Afterwards, the Governor-General received the High Commissioner for the Republic of Cyprus, Her Excellency Mrs Ioanna Malliotis.
Later, the Governor-General received the Ambassador-designate to the State of Israel, Mr Chris Cannan.
Then, at Defence Establishment, Fairbairn, the Governor-General was represented for the departure from Canberra of the President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, His Excellency Maithripala Sirisena, by the Official Secretary to the Governor-General, Mr Mark Fraser LVO OAM.
