On Friday 1 July 2016, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) received the Ambassador-designate to the Islamic Republic of Iran, Mr Ian Biggs.

Afterwards, at Portsea Oval, Duntroon, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of Chairman of the Australian Defence Force Rugby Union, Major General John Frewen AM, attended the Australian Defence Force versus Australian Police inaugural Rugby Union match.

In the evening, at GIO Stadium, the Governor-General, as Patron, and Lady Cosgrove, as the guests of the Acting Chief Executive Officer of Aquis Brumbies, Mr Phil Thomson, attended the Brumbies versus Reds match.
