On Wednesday 29 June 2016, at the Hyatt Hotel, Canberra, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the High Commissioner for Canada, His Excellency Mr Paul Maddison, attended the Canada Day reception to mark Canada's 149th birthday.

Afterwards, the Governor-General received the Chairman of the Wise Foundation, Mr Graeme Wise, and Mr Robert Wise and Mr Mark Campbell of Be Collective.

In the evening, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove hosted a dinner. Guests included: Rear Admiral Ken Doolan AO RAN (Retd) and Mrs Elaine Doolan; Major General David John McLachlan AO and Mrs Louise McLachlan; and The Honourable Dr Brendan Nelson AO and Ms Gillian Adamson.
