On Friday 31 August 2018, at the National Arboretum, the Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), and Lady Cosgrove attended an event for National Wattle Day. The Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove conducted a ceremonial planting of a golden wattle tree for the National Arboretum and were presented a basket of wattle from students from the Islamic School of Canberra.

Afterwards, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, attend a reception for the Vietnamese National Day, at the National Gallery of Australia, as guests of HE Nam Huong Ngo, Ambassador of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

Earlier, the Governor-General met with students from Sunrise Christian School, SA; and Belridge Secondary School, WA; as they undertook a tour of Government House as part of their visit to Canberra.
