On Thursday 30 August 2018, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), presided at a meeting of the Federal Executive Council.

Afterwards, the Governor-General, as Chancellor of the Order of Australia, and Lady Cosgrove, conducted an Investiture Ceremony, at which Dr Barry McGowan OAM was awarded an Order of Australia Medal (General Division), at Canberra Hospital.

Later, the Governor-General received Vice Admiral Michael Noonan AO RAN, Chief of Navy, at Government House, Canberra.

Earlier, the Governor-General met with students from Mary Immaculate & St Pius X School; Craigslea State School, QLD; Vermont Primary School, VIC; and Nhulunbuy Primary School, NT, as they undertook a tour of Government House as part of their visit to Canberra.
