On Friday 24 August 2018, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), received the resignation of the Honourable Malcom Turnbull MP as Prime Minister of Australia.

In the evening, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove attended a ceremony at which the Governor-General issued the Oath of Office to the newly-appointed Prime Minister of Australia, the Honourable Scott Morrison MP, and Treasurer, the Honourable Joshua Frydenberg MP.

Earlier, the Governor-General met with students from Redhead Public School, NSW; Oakleigh State School, QLD; and Sunrise Christian School, SA, as they undertook a tour of Government House as part of their visit to Canberra.
