On Monday 20 June 2016, at the National Convention Centre, Canberra, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), as guest speaker, and Lady Cosgrove opened the Australian Local Government Association’s National General Assembly.

Afterwards, at the Wayville site, Adelaide, the Governor-General, as Patron, and Lady Cosgrove visited the Mental Illness Fellowship of South Australia and met with staff and volunteers.

Later, at the Wynn Vale Hub, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Chief Executive, Mrs Marguerite Dissinger, visited the Spastic Centres of South Australia and met with clients, their families and staff.

Then, at the Adelaide Pre-Release Centre, Northfield, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove and met with prisoners and staff and were briefed on the Centre’s prisoner rehabilitation programs.

Afterwards, at the Sagarmatha Women’s Centre, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove visited Catherine House and met with residents, clients and staff and were briefed on the Centre’s services assisting women experiencing homelessness.
