On Tuesday 17 October 2017, at Defence Establishment Fairbairn, Canberra, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), and Lady Cosgrove farewelled from Canberra the President of the Republic of Ireland, His Excellency Mr Michael D Higgins and Mrs Sabina Higgins.

In the afternoon, at Changi International Airport, Singapore, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove were welcomed to the Republic of Singapore by the High Commissioner to the Republic of Singapore, His Excellency Mr Bruce Grosper.

Earlier, following the departure of the Governor-General from Australia on State and Official visits to countries within the Middle East and Asia, the proclamation assuming the Administration of the Government of the Commonwealth of Australia was signed by the Governor of New South Wales, His Excellency General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd).
