On Thursday 24 August 2017, at Government House, Canberra, the Governor-General, General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd), presided at a meeting of the Federal Executive Council.
In the afternoon, at the Wadlata Outback Centre, Port Augusta, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Director Community Services, Mrs Anne O’Reilly, viewed the facilities, received a brief on operations and met with staff and volunteers.
Afterwards, at the Davenport Aboriginal Community, Port Augusta, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Chief Executive Officer, Ms Lavene Ngatokoura, viewed the Women’s Shed and met with members of the community, staff and patients.
Later, at the Port Augusta School of the Air, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Principal, Mr George Hewitson, viewed the facilities and were briefed on operations. The Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove then conducted a question and answer segment with students of the school aged between 6 and 12.
Then, at the Port Augusta Regional Domestic Violence and Aboriginal Family Violence Services centre, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Chief Executive Officer of Uniting Care Wesley Country SA, Ms Anthea Pavy, viewed the facilities, and met with staff and volunteers.
In the evening, at the Australian Arid Lands Botanic Garden, Port Augusta, the Governor-General and Lady Cosgrove, as guests of the Mayor of Port Augusta City Council, Councillor Sam Johnson, attended a civic reception.
