On Wednesday 19 August 2020, at Government House, Canberra, Their Excellencies General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd) and Mrs Linda Hurley met with local councils in Victoria and New South Wales to discuss the impact of COVID-19. This included video conferences with Cr Stephanie Asher, Mayor, and Cr Kylie Grzybek, Deputy Mayor, Greater Geelong Council; and Cr Clover Moore, Lord Mayor, City of Sydney Council.

Afterwards, the Governor-General hosted a lunch for Professor Tom Calma AO, Chancellor, University of Canberra.

Later, the Governor-General received a phone call from Mr Samier Dandan, President, Lebanese Muslim Association, to discuss the impact of the recent events in Beirut on the Australian-Lebanese community.
