On Friday 17 April 2020, His Excellency General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd) spoke with senior representatives of his patronages regarding the impact of COVID-19. This included telephone calls with Mr Chris Forbes, Chief Executive Officer, Kidney Health Australia; and Mr Richard Cooke, Executive Director, National Association for Prevention of Child Abuse and Neglect.

Her Excellency Mrs Linda Hurley also spoke with senior representatives of her patronages. This included telephone calls from Mr Rohan Greenland, Chief Executive Officer, Palliative Care Australia; Sister Elizabeth Wiemers, Coordinator, Catholic Church Santa Teresa; and Ms Sandra Turner, Chief Executive Officer, Cancer Council ACT.

Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley received a telephone call from His Excellency The Right Reverend Sir David Vunagi GCMG, Governor-General of the Solomon Islands, and Lady Mary Vunagi.

Then, the Governor-General received a telephone call from the Honourable Scott Morrison MP, Prime Minister of Australia.

Later, the Governor-General, as Patron, participated in a video conference with the Global Voices 2020 Scholars.
