On Wednesday 29 July 2020, at Government House, Canberra, His Excellency General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd) received the Honourable Shane Stone AC, Chairman, Council of the Order of Australia.

Afterwards, the Governor-General and Her Excellency Mrs Linda Hurley received telephone calls from council representatives on the NSW south coast to discuss recovery efforts following the Black Summer Bushfires. This included phone calls with Cr Liz Innes, Mayor, Eurobodalla Shire Council; and Cr Amanda Findley, Mayor, Shoalhaven City Council.

Later, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley met with council representatives from the greater Melbourne region to discuss the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. This included video conferences with Cr Samantha Byrne, Mayor, Moonee Valley City Council; Cr Josh Gilligan, Mayor, Wyndham City Council; Cr Lambros Tapinos, Mayor, Moreland City Council; Mr Joe Carbone, A/g CEO, Whittlesea City Council; and Cr Sarah Carter, Mayor, Maribyrnong City Council.
