On Friday 31 July 2020, at Government House, Canberra, His Excellency General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd) presided over a meeting of the Federal Executive Council.

In the morning, the Governor-General and Her Excellency Mrs Linda Hurley received a phone call from Cr Michael Pengilly, Mayor, Kangaroo Island Council, to discuss bushfire recovery efforts.

Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley met with Mr Alex Zimmermann, Co-ordinator, Lobethal Bushfire Recovery Centre, via video conference to discuss the status of recovery efforts.

Later, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley met with Mr James and Mrs Annabelle Tilbrook, Owners, Tilbrook Estate Winery, via video conference to discuss the progress of rebuilding following bushfires in December 2019.

Then, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley hosted the Questacon Science Ninjas and participated in an experiment ahead of National Science Week.
