On Thursday 6 August 2020, His Excellency General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd) presided at a meeting of the Federal Executive Council.

Afterwards, the Governor-General and Her Excellency Mrs Hurley met with Ms Jen Haberecht, Senior Project Officer, and Ms Jodie Magner, Resilience Officer, NSW Department of Primary Industry, via video conference, to discuss recovery efforts following the Black Summer Bushfires.

Later, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley met with students from Newcastle Grammar School via video conference.

Then, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley met with Cr Alison Champion, Mayor, and Ms Allison Beck, CEO, Banyule City Council, via video conference, to discuss the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Afterwards, the Governor-General received Mr Chris Hartley.

In the evening, the Governor-General participated in an online webinar hosted by the Australian Strategic Policy Institute.
