On Friday 20 September 2019, at Government House, Canberra, His Excellency General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd), accompanied by Her Excellency Mrs Linda Hurley, received Letters of Commission from Mr Jayasuriya Chrishantha Weliamuna, accrediting him as the High Commissioner for the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka. The High Commissioner was accompanied by Mr DDM Senarath B Dissanayake, Deputy High Commissioner; Mr Dharmapala Weerakkody Mudiyanselage, Minister; and Mrs Aravinda de Silva, Minister. The Governor-General and Mrs Hurley also received Mrs Subodhya Weliamuna.
Afterwards, the Governor-General received Letters of Credence from Mr Bertil Henrik Cederin, accrediting him as the Ambassador for the Kingdom of Sweden. The Ambassador was accompanied by Mr Henrik Grudemo, Minister Counsellor; and Ms Ulrika Gustafsson, Second Secretary. The Governor-General and Mrs Hurley also received Mrs Alexandra Eva Elisabeth Cederin.
Later, the Governor-General received Letters of Credence from Ms Francesca Tardioli, accrediting her as the Ambassador for the Italian Republic. The Ambassador was accompanied by Mr Filippo Lonardo, Deputy Head of Mission; Mr Giorgio Daviddi, First Secretary; and Dr Anna Maria Fioretti, Scientific Attaché.
Then, the Governor-General received Her Excellency Mrs Nantana Sivakua, Ambassador of Thailand, for a farewell call.
In the afternoon, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley hosted a lunch in honour of newly accredited Heads of Mission.
In the evening, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley hosted a reception for One Young World’s Australian delegates.
