On Sunday 30 April 2023, His Excellency General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd) received a phone call from General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK CVO MC (Retd).

In the evening, the Governor-General and Her Excellency Mrs Linda Hurley travelled from Canberra, Australian Capital Territory, to Athens, Greece.

Following the departure of the Governor-General from Australia to Greece, the proclamation assuming the Administration of the Government of the Commonwealth of Australia, was signed by General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK CVO MC (Retd).
