On Wednesday 17 May 2023, His Excellency General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd) met with students from The Hutchins School, Sandy Bay, Tasmania.

Then, the Governor-General, accompanied by Her Excellency Mrs Linda Hurley, received Letters of Credence accrediting Her Excellency Mrs Tanieris Diéguez La O, as the Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba. The Ambassador was accompanied by her spouse, Mr Tomas Ramirez Cabrera, and representative of the Embassy of the Republic of Cuba, Ms Ivianes Danay Gonzalez Llanes, Third Secretary.

Later, the Governor-General, accompanied by Mrs Hurley, received Letters of Credence accrediting His Excellency Mr Kazuhiro Suzuki as the Ambassador of Japan. The Ambassador was accompanied by representatives of the Embassy of Japan, including Mr Tadaatsu Mori, Deputy Head of Mission; and Colonel Satoshi Yasugi, Defence and Air Attaché.

Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley hosted a lunch for newly accredited Heads of Mission. Guests included: Ms Debbie Banerjee, Chief Financial Officer, Office of the Official Secretary to the Governor-General; Her Excellency Mrs Tanieris Diéguez La O, Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba and her spouse Mr Tomas Ramirez Cabrera; His Excellency Mr Kazuhiro Suzuki, Ambassador of Japan and Mr Akihiko Sunami, Minister for Economic and Cultural Affairs; His Excellency Dr Ali Kraishan, Dean of the Diplomatic Corps, Ambassador of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and his spouse Mrs Lubna Kraishan; Mr Ian McConville, Chief of Protocol, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade; Mr Paul Singer MVO, Official Secretary to the Governor-General; Mr Tim Yeend, representing the Foreign Minister; Associate Secretary, Trade and Investment Group, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.

Then, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley met with students from St Leonards College, Melbourne, Victoria.

In the evening, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley hosted a reception in recognition of National Volunteer Week.
