On Wednesday 11 October 2023, Their Excellencies General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd) and Mrs Linda Hurley received Letters of Credence from His Excellency Mr Junior Aini accrediting him as the non-resident Ambassador of the Republic of the Marshall Islands.
Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley hosted a lunch for Heads of Mission of nations in the non-European Union and North Asian countries. Guests included His Excellency Mr Davaasuren Damdinsuren, Ambassador of Mongolia and Mr Munkhbayar Erdenejav, Second Secretary, Embassy of Mongolia; Mr Li Fanjie, Deputy Head of Mission, Embassy of the People’s Republic of China; Her Excellency Ms Jetmira Berdynaj Shala, Ambassador of Kosovo; His Excellency Mr Kim Wan-joong, Ambassador of Korea and his spouse Ms Park Hae-jin; His Excellency Mr Beka Dvali, Ambassador of Georgia and his spouse Mrs Nino Lezhava; His Excellency Mr Suzuki Kazuhiro, Ambassador of Japan and Ms Miyano Michiko, Minister for Economic and Cultural Affairs, Embassy of Japan; Mr Vagif Jafarov, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of Azerbaijan; and representatives from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade including Mr Cameron Archer, Acting First Assistant Secretary, Geostrategy and Partnership Division, and Ms Ceri Donoghue, Acting Director, Korean Peninsula Section; and representatives from the Office of the Official Secretary to the Governor-General including Mr Paul Singer MVO, Official Secretary, and Mr Jeff Barnes, Deputy Official Secretary.
Then, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as joint Patrons, hosted an afternoon tea for the United Nations Association of Australia.
In the afternoon, the Governor-General, as Chief Scout, and Mrs Hurley recorded a video message for Scouts Australia’s 2023 Jamboree on the Air (JOTA) and Jamboree on the Internet (JOTI).
