On Friday 8 December 2023, Their Excellencies General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd) and Mrs Linda Hurley, as guests of Air Commodore Ruth Elsley CSC, Commandant, Australian War College, attended a graduation ceremony for the Australian War College, and a joint graduation ceremony for the Defence Strategic Studies Course and the Australian Command and Staff Course.

In the afternoon, the Governor-General, as Chief Scout, and Mrs Hurley, hosted a swearing-in ceremony at which Mr Brendan Watson OAM was appointed Chief Commissioner of Scouts Australia.

Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley hosted a reception for graduands of Australia Defence Force Academy and Royal Military College - Duntroon.
