Canberra, Australian Capital Territory; Ballina, Lismore, New South Wales
On Wednesday 6 April 2022, Their Excellencies General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd) and Mrs Linda Hurley travelled from Canberra, Australian Capital Territory, to Ballina, New South Wales.
Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Mr Chris Binge, Chief Executive Officer, Jali Local Aboriginal Land Council, met with flood-affected community members on Cabbage Tree Island.
Later, the Governor-General and Mrs Linda Hurley met with Councillor Steve Krieg, Mayor, Lismore City Council, to discuss the impact of major flooding and the progress of recovery efforts.
Then, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley met with Ms Anita Bellman, Executive Director, Northern Rivers Conservatorium, to inspect damage caused to the Conservatorium by major flooding.
Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley visited the Lismore Recovery Centre and met with volunteers, emergency services agencies and members of the public impacted by the 2022 floods.
Later, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley met with business owners at the Northern Rivers Business Hub at Southern Cross University.
In the evening, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley travelled from Ballina, New South Wales, to Canberra, Australian Capital Territory.
