On 30 January 2023, Their Excellencies General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd) and Mrs Linda Hurley, travelled from Canberra, Australian Capital Territory, to Derby, Western Australia.

Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Councillor Geoff Haerewa, President, Shire of Derby and West Kimberley, met with Woolworths staff and volunteers involved in flood relief efforts.

Later, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Councillor Haerewa, met with local community leaders.

Then, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley travelled from Derby to Broome, Western Australia.

Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Lieutenant Colonel Daniel Wright, Commanding Officer, Joint Task Group 629.6.1, met with Australian Defence Force personnel working at Broome Airport.

Later, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Commissioner Darren Klemm AFSM, Commissioner, WA Department of Fire and Emergency Services, received a briefing on flood recovery efforts and met with volunteers at the Regional Operations Centre.

Then, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Lieutenant Colonel Wright, received a briefing on flood recovery efforts and met with Australian Defence Force personnel.
