Canberra, Australian Capital Territory; Honiara, Solomon Islands

On Sunday 19 November 2023, Their Excellencies General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd) and Mrs Linda Hurley travelled from Canberra, Australian Capital Territory, to Honiara, Solomon Islands.

Following the departure of the Governor-General from Australia to the Solomon Islands, the Proclamation assuming the Administration of the Government of the Commonwealth of Australia was signed by Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC KC, Governor of New South Wales.

In the afternoon, at Honiara International Airport, Solomon Islands, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley were welcomed by the Honourable Peter Shanel Agovaka, Supervising Minister, Solomon Islands Foreign Affairs and External Trade.

Later, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley met with His Excellency Mr Rod Hilton, Australian High Commissioner to Solomon Islands.

Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Mr John Heaslip, First Secretary, Australian High Commission to Solomon Islands, attended the 2023 Pacific Games pre-opening ceremony reception.

Then, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of the Honourable Manasseh Sogavare MP, Prime Minister of the Solomon Islands and Minister of Pacific Games 2023, attended the opening ceremony of the 17th Pacific Games.
