On Thursday 12 March 2020, His Excellency General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd) presided over the Federal Executive Council.
Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mrs Linda Hurley travelled from Canberra, Australian Capital Territory, to Kangaroo Island, South Australia. At Kingscote Airport they were met by Cr Michael Pengilly, Mayor, Kangaroo Island Council, and received an update on recovery efforts following the January bushfires.
Later, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Mr Matt Linn, Head of Campus, Kangaroo Island Community Education (KICE), visited KICE's Parndana Campus and met with students, teachers and staff.
Then, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Ms Ginny Wachmer, met with 'The Minstrels' music therapy group.
Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Mr Sam Mitchell and Mrs Dana Mitchell, Co-owners, visited the Kangaroo Island Wildlife Park and met with staff involved in animal rehabilitation following January bushfires.
In the afternoon, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley visited the home of Ms Madelyn Kelly and met with residents affected by the January bushfires.
In the evening, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Mr Peter Davis, Owner, and Mrs Susan Davis, visited Island Beehive, a Kangaroo Island Organic Ligurian Bee Honey Producer that was impacted by the January 2020 bushfires.
