On Wednesday 1 November 2023, Their Excellencies General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd), and Mrs Linda Hurley, travelled from Canberra, Australian Capital Territory, to Longreach, Queensland.
On arrival, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley met with Councillor Tony Rayner, Mayor, and members of Longreach Regional Council and attended a briefing on the region.
Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley met with Aunty Joyce Crombie and Ms Louise Campbell, Founders, Red Ridge the Label.
In the afternoon, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Councillor Rayner, attended a lunch with community members and representatives of Longreach.
Then, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Ms Peta Bates, acting Deputy Principal, visited and met with students and staff of the Longreach School of Distance Education.
Afterwards, the Governor-General, as Chief Scout, and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Mr John Palmer OAM, Scout Master, met with the Longreach Scouts.
Later, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Councillor Rayner, attended the opening of the Longreach Centenary Garden.
