On Thursday 17 November 2022, Their Excellencies General the Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Retd) and Mrs Linda Hurley travelled from Canberra, Australian Capital Territory, to Forbes, New South Wales.
Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Councillor Phyllis Miller OAM, Mayor, Forbes Shire Council, received a brief on the Forbes Shire recovery efforts post flood and met with emergency services members and volunteers at the Emergency Operation Centre.
Later, the Governor-General was interviewed by local and national media outlets.
Then, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley, as guests of Councillor Neil Westcott, Deputy Mayor, Parkes Shire Council, visited the SES Emergency Control Centre and met with Incident Controller Mr Ken Murphy and New Zealand volunteers.
In the afternoon, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley visited Billabong Crescent to meet with flood affected residents.
Afterwards, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley as guests of Councillor Kevin Beatty, Mayor, Cabonne Council, met with the Cabonne Shire Council contingent at the Eugowra Emergency Operations Centre, and local residents in the town of Eugowra.
Then, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley travelled from Parkes, New South Wales, to Sydney, New South Wales.
In the evening, the Governor-General and Mrs Hurley hosted a reception for the European Australian Business Council.
